Modeling the magnetic field in the protostellar source NGC 1333 IRAS 4 A

چکیده
Context. Magnetic fields are believed to play a crucial role in the process of star formation. Aims. We compare high-angular resolution observations of the submillimeter polarized emission of NGC 1333 IRAS 4A, tracing the magnetic field around a low-mass protostar, with models of the collapse of magnetized molecular cloud cores. Methods. Assuming a uniform dust alignment efficiency, we computed the Stokes parameters and synthetic polarization maps from the model density and magnetic field distribution by integrations along the line-of-sight and convolution with the interferometric response. Results. The synthetic maps are in good agreement with the data. The best-fitting models were obtained for a protostellar mass of 0.8 M⊙, of age 9× 10 4 yr, formed in a cloud with an initial mass-to-flux ratio ∼ 2 times the critical value. Conclusions. The magnetic field morphology in NGC 1333 IRAS 4A is consistent with the standard theoretical scenario for the formation of solar-type stars, where well-ordered, large-scale, rather than turbulent, magnetic fields control the evolution and collapse of the molecular cloud cores from which stars form.

Detection of HCOOCH3 toward a Low-Mass Protostar, NGC 1333 IRAS 4B
The rotational spectral lines of methylformate (HCOOCH3) have been detected toward a low-mass protostar, NGC 1333 IRAS 4B, with the Nobeyama 45m radio telescope. The column density is derived to be (7–37)× 1015 cm−2, assuming a source size of 1′′ and the range of the excitation temperature to be from 50K to 200K. The column density is almost comparable to those found in other low-mass star-form...

We report high-angular-resolution measurements of polarized dust emission toward the low-mass protostellar system NGC 1333 IRAS 4A. We show that in this system the observed magnetic field morphology is in agreement with the standard theoretical models of the formation of Sun-like stars in magnetized molecular clouds at scales of a few hundred astronomical units; gravity has overcome magnetic su...
متن کاملSio Observations of the Ngc 1333 Iras 2a Protostellar Jet
We present 86.8 GHz SiO J=2-1 observations of the molecular outflow from the protostellar source NGC 1333 IRAS 2A. Silicon monoxide is a sensitive tracer of shocks in molecular gas, and the emission clearly traces terminal bow-shocks at the ends of the outflow lobes, as well as emission knots and a source coincident with the protostar. Our three-field mosaic from the BIMA interferometer covers ...
متن کاملNumerical Simulations of a Protostellar Outflow Colliding with a Dense Molecular Cloud
High-resolution SiO observations of the NGC 1333 IRAS 4A star-forming region showed a highly collimated outflow with a substantial deflection. The deflection was suggested to be caused by the interactions of the outflow and a dense cloud core. To investigate the deflection process of protostellar outflows, we have carried out threedimensional hydrodynamic simulations of the collision of an outf...
متن کاملThe structure of the NGC 1333 - IRAS 2 protostellar system on 500 AU scales
This paper investigates small-scale (500 AU) structures of dense gas and dust around the low-mass protostellar binary NGC 1333-IRAS2 using millimeter-wavelength aperture-synthesis observations from the Owens Valley and BerkeleyIllinois-Maryland-Association interferometers. The detected λ = 3 mm continuum emission from cold dust is consistent with models of the envelope around IRAS2A, based on p...
